Restaurants
Cardiff has loads of great restaurants to visit, whatever your budget.
The Vegetarian Food Studio offers a range of south Indian food, which is tasty, filling and cheap – making it a hit for vegans and vegetarians in the area. We recommend you try the desi channa, the chickpea and onions or the barfi sweets. The VFS can be found on Penarth Road.
Y Mochyn Du is a twenty-minute stroll from the centre of Cardiff. The pub is in an old-fashioned building by the entrance to Sophia Gardens. Rugby memorabilia can be found all around the restaurant. Welsh can be heard spoken by the bar. There’s a lot of traditional Welsh food served on the menu including rarebit, bara brith and laver bread and cockles.
Chai Street offers some of the best Indian in the city. With dishes such as Aurangabad toasties, curry leaf infused mashed potato, dal, vegetable curries, buirrito, Kolkata wrap. This iconic restaurant can be found on Whitchurch Street.
Waterloo Gardens Teahouse is an upmarket café in what was once a butcher’s shop not far from the city centre. Renowned for its cakes and excellent loose leaf teas, this café serves over fifty kinds of tea which can be found in an array of steel canisters.
These are all ideal if you’re heading out to the theatre later in the evening.
