Brecon Beacons
The Brecon Beacons National Park has masses to offer residents and visitors, including moorland, mountains, castles and waterfalls. The are has a colourful history and a rich and varied mythology and culture.
During the Norman conquest, the Brecon Beacons were peppered with castles. The ruins of Carreg Cennen are likely to be the best known remaining fortifications. Llanthony Priory was established around the start of the 12th century. Medieval farmhouses followed. Land which had not been used by the Norman barons was farmed by villagers as a source of firewood, turf, peat and gravel, and as grazing for sheep, cattle and pigs.
